We have a vacancy for a School Nurse to work in the medical room from January 2025. The Medical Room plays a significant role in the life of the school, ensuring that pupils, staff and visitors to the school are provided with professional and compassionate medical care and first aid.

We take the safeguarding and welfare of all children extremely seriously. Therefore, at all times, the nurse will:
Safeguard the children’s wellbeing and maintain trust in the school
Provide a safe environment
Identify children who may be in need of extra help or who are suffering or are likely to suffer significant harm
Promptly raise concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and work with other services as needed
Attend safeguarding training and other related training as required
Key Duties and responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with the professional Code of Conduct, NMC revalidation, and CPD.
Maintain up-to-date medical practices, health promotion initiatives, and school medical records.
Manage pupil medical needs, including concussion protocols, medication administration, and epipen registers.
Ensure adequate medical supplies, secure drug management, and audit compliance.
Provide first aid, manage emergencies, and liaise with parents, staff, and external agencies.
Oversee immunisations, maintain records, and manage incidents around school.
Assist pastoral teams and support school trips with pupil-specific medical details.
Maintain and check first aid kits and site defibrillators, including staff training.
Uphold confidentiality, follow school policies, and attend meetings, events, and open days.
Address accidents and bodily fluid incidents, and implement child protection policies.
Undertake other relevant professional duties as needed.
Required skills and experience
Qualified state registered nurse
Previous experience of school nursing
Previous experience of working with children
Knowledge of safeguarding issues
Knowledge of children’s health issues
Experience in a busy department, such as Accident and Emergency Skills
Empathy and understanding of the emotional needs of children
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Highly practical and organised with common sense and initiative
Ability to prioritise and manage challenging workloads and work under pressure
Good IT skills
Ability to work on own initiative
